
CITATION ON HAFIZ ABUBAKAR RINGIM, CFR NPM, mni, INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA
Hafiz Abubakar Ringim was born on 1st April, 1953 in Ringim, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
2. He attended Ringim Primary School and later Rumfa College, Kano from where he obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1972.
3. Having passed out from college, it was a very young Ringim that joined the services of the Nigeria Police Force and was appointed a Cadet Inspector on 1st March, 1977, marking the beginning of what would become a celebrated career, now spanning over a period of thirty four years.
4. As a young Officer in the Force, Hafiz Ringim performed his duties with utmost zeal, unequalled commitment and dedication with deployments to various parts of the country. His attitude to duty perhaps earned him numerous responsibilities including that of
· Squadron Commander, 9 PMF Kano 1989 – 1992
· Member Recruitment Committee, 1992 National Guards, Lagos
· National Guards North West 1993 Zonal Commander
· Member, Presidential Committee on 1993 - 1994 Corrupt Military Governors
· Commandant, Police Mobile Training, 1994 Gworza, Borno State
· Chairman, Border Patrol Committee of Nigeria and Cameroun Border, amongst others.
5. He subsequently rose through the Officer’s cadre and was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police in July, 2000 and was responsible for security while in charge of Adamawa, Osun and Bayelsa States between 2003 and 2006. He made tremendous impact in enhancing Nigeria’s participation in Regional and International Law Enforcement initiatives while in charge of the Force INTERPOL Department between the year 2000 and 2003. In that capacity, he led Nigeria’s delegation to different sessions of the INTERPOL General Assemblies in Budapest, Lyon – France and in Rhodes Island, Greece. He equally represented Nigeria at the INTERPOL Africa Regional Conferences in South Africa and Botswana as well as in other International Counterpart interactions held under the auspices of the Nigeria Criminal Enterprises American Secret Service in Washington DC and New York City, USA.
6. Hafiz Ringim was promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police in November, 2006 and while on that rank served as the Commandant of Police Staff College, Jos. He was also in charge of Border Patrols and general security around the Country’s land borders before his deployment to the Zone 9 Command of the Police Force to supervise the security of Anambra, Abia, Enugu and Imo States.
7. His career hit the peak with his appointment as Inspector-General of Police by His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, on 8th September, 2010. The career profile of the Inspector-General of Police showcases the highest level of professionalism, resilience in the face of challenges, boldness, firmness and an unequalled ability to provide solutions to teething job-related problems. Hafiz Ringim is an International Police Officer per excellence, an INTERPOL Ambassador and the present Chairman of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO). Hafiz Abubakar Ringim is a proud member of the National Institute and a prestigious holder of the Nigeria Police Medal.
