The Inspector-General of Police Mohammed D. Abubakar FCE, FCPA, NPM, mni in his maiden address to Senior Police Officers, urged Officers and men to brace up to transform the Nigeria Police Force.

It is no secret that policing is one of noblest professions that a person can undertake. It has incredible rewards and responsibilities.

The current state of criminality is of great concern to the government and to all Nigerians and the Force is expected to do more, bringing under control dangers that confront our people, government institutions and business on a daily basis.

Let me stress that this is not the time for rhetoric and grandstanding. Transition periods are always tough because of a lot of anxieties, speculation, comparisons and rumors but we shall now put all that behind us and begin to move forward as a unified team.

One of my top goals will be to make sure my officers have the best training tactics and equipment to keep themselves and the communities as safe as possible.

We can make up for a certain number of officers through efficiencies and police smarter than we are doing now, make better use of technology, and figure out better ways to keep our officers in the field.

The basic task of law and order confronting the Force, though enormous, are surmountable. This requires effective qualitative leadership and partnership with relevant agencies and the citizens.

All forms of criminality will be tackled headlong with the right approach, right equipment and close cooperation with our community and collaboration of other sister security agencies.

It will be of no surprise to many citizens who reads newspapers and listens to news daily that the Police has been tested and criticized in recent months. I want you all to know that we shall take this scrutiny seriously and take the responsibility to address our challenges and shortcomings. The plain truth of it is that no one is harder on the Nigeria Police Force than itself. And the other truth is that we can only succeed in keeping our community safe by working with, for and through the community.
