FG DID NOT QUERY POLICE OVER THE
PURCHASE OF 75,000 UNITS OF MOTOROLA WALKIE TALKIES
The attention of the Police High Command has been drawn to one of the National Dailies Publication of 25th October, 2011. Titled “Purchase of Motorola Phones: FG Queries Police”
The story was not only false and misleading but a figment of writer’s imagination.
It will be recalled that in its effort to adequately reposition the Nigeria Police, Federal Government came up with Police Reform Prorgamme and one of the key areas that was in dire need of urgent attention was effective communication in the Force.
To kick start the programme in 2010, about 75,000 Motorola Walkie-Talkies were procured by the Ministry of Police Affairs for the Nigeria Police. This was intended to proficiently boost the efficiency of a sizeable number of Police Formations nationwide in area of communication.
The Nigeria Police was not part of the procurement process of the Walkie-Talkies; therefore there is no reason and basis for the FG to query the Police over the purchase of the communications gadgets.
The Police High Command is using this medium as always, to advise the writer of this story to always cross check the source of every story in the interest of professionalism before going to the press.
