ZONE 4

INTRODUCTION

Zone 4 Police Command is located in the North-central Geo-political zone of Nigeria is one of the resultant effects of the Force reorganization, 1986 during which six Zones were created. Certain numbers of states were placed under the zone for the purpose of effective supervision and administration. Zone 4 presently has three states Commands under it namely: Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau state commands with the zonal Headquarters at Markurdi, Benue State and has a workforce of 321 personnel as at the time of putting up this report. Zone 4 Police Command was headed by AIG Aderele Shinaba, mni. The entire zone has a population of 9,261,231 based on the 2006 National Population Census figure and combined Staff strength of 16,363 officers and men.

Benue state according to the 2006 Population Census figure has an estimated population of 4,219,244 Covering the 23 Local government Areas with police staff strength of 4,705 officers and men.

Nasarawa state according to the 2006 Population Census figure has an estimated population of 1,863,275 covering the 13 Local Government areas with police staff strength of 5,417 while Plateau state has an estimated population of 3,178,712 covering the 17 local government areas with police staff strength of about 5,920 officers and men.

Zone 4 made tremendous achievements in crime prevention and control and maintenance of law & order. Training and retraining of the workforce in weapon handling, computer operations and detective courses for officers of the zone has greatly improved their capability and enhanced productivity. Amongst the numerous achievements recorded by the zone was the arrest of forty two persons involved in various crimes and recovery of properties worth five million four hundred and eighty thousand Naira (₦5,480,000.00) only. Finally, the year 2012 witnessed a drastic reduction in crime wave and a turnout of disciplined police officers.
